Butter Murukku | Murukku recipe

Murruku is a South Indian snack which is famous all over the country. On the North Side, it is also called Chakli. Kuki is like Chakri. Murruku is made from rice flour and maida. You can add flavorful ingredients as per your choice in Murrukku.

For us, any festival is celebrated with great pomp and show, especially Diwali. Diwali is an important festival of Hindus, people prepare different types of dishes during Diwali. In Diwali we eat Jalebi, Laddu, Chivda, Namkeen, Chakli, Sweets, Sev etc. All these dishes are prepared by the family members together. Diwali is a festival of happiness, and we express this happiness by distributing sweets.

I still remember when I was little, my grandmother used to start preparing dishes at home a week before Diwali, different types of sweets, barfi, namkeen etc. were made and I used to watch them making them with great interest.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups rice flour
  • 4 tsp sattu (barley)
  • 3 tsp gram flour (roasted)
  • tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • tsp butter
  • salt as required
  • oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Sieve rice flour, gram flour and sattu together in a bowl.
  • Add salt, asafetida and butter and mix well.
  • When the butter is completely mixed, knead the dough by adding a little water. Cover it with a wet cloth and keep it for a few minutes.
  • Fill this kneaded dough in chakli maker.
  • Drop the Murruku lengthwise into the hot oil. Fry on medium flame till light golden and crispy.
